Creatures and mysteries await at the NYC launch for by LISELLE SAMBURY.

This tale follows August Black, a seventeen-year-old whose life has turned miserable since her mother's disappearance. With an absent father and her brother, Jules, away at college, she's completely alone. Now Jules has gone missing too, leaving a message which ends on a terrifying note:

Monsters are real.

Despite her terror, August is going to find him. But she soon learns that he was right when she's attacked by a mysterious, impossibly huge, furry, and clawed creature. The only person that knows anything about it is the bookish Virgil Hawthorne, because he is one.

Virgil has grown up in the shadowy Learners' Society, where people like him must bond with someone who can control their monstrous mutations. In exchange for his help, August enters a monster-bonding competition -- Virgil's last chance to bond before becoming a mindless monster forever and August's only chance to find her brother.
